Mr. Malcolm Forrest ""Pete"" Walker, 86 of Winston-Salem passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Springwood Care Nursing Center. Mr. Walker was born December 4, 1921 in Reidsville, N.C. to the late Amos Garret and Pearl Grey Talley Walker. He was a graduate of Reidsville High School, Wake Forest University and Elon University. Mr. Walker was a WWII Veteran of the US Air Corp, serving in the European Theater, where he received a Bronze Star and the Silver Star in addition to other Medals for his Service. For a time during the War he was a POW. He was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church and was retired from AT@T as a Planning Engineer. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Juanita Smith Walker of Winston-Salem, a daughter; Julie Vogler and husband, Robert of Lewisville, NC, two sons; Peter Walker and wife Lynn of Columbus, Ga., Michael Walker of Colfax, Ca.; eight grandchildren; Derrick Walker, Preston Walker, Luke Walker, Clay Walker, Sadie Amadieo, Leigh Vogler, Robert Vogler and Janna Vogler. The Family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday, July 7 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A Graveside Service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 8 in the Reidlawn Cemetery, Reidsville, NC conducted by Rev. J. Patrick Heafner with Military Honors by the US Army Funeral Detail. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1315 Ashleybrook Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The Walker Family would like to express a special thank you to the Nurses and staff at Springwood Care Nursing Center for their care given to Mr. Walker and family.
