Mae Love Long

Mae Love Long peacefully passed away on the morning of July 4, 2015, at Forest Heights Assisted Living facility in Winston Salem NC. She was born February 24, 1922, in Forsyth County to the late Oscar Lee Love, Sr. and Carrie Tesh Love. She was married to the love of her life, Felix Long, and enjoyed 69 years of marriage until his death on June 6, 2011. They had one son, Michael Lee Long, who passed away on November 20, 2001. Mae and her husband faithfully traveled to Garner every two weeks to help care for their son Michael during his illness. They also enjoyed taking care of their grandsons for at least a week or two each summer as they grew up. She was also preceded in death by her six brothers and three sisters.

Mae attended Gray High School in Winston-Salem and was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. She was a charter member of Faith Church of Midway, N.C. and regularly attended as long as her health permitted. She sang in the Church Choir for many years. She was a faithful volunteer at Forsyth Hospital for many years after her retirement from RJR. She always enjoyed Gospel Music and attended the Earl Carney Gospel Singings at Reynolds Auditorium for many years.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Denise M. Cashwell and her husband Glyn of Punta Gorda, Florida, two grandsons, Justin Long of Belmont, NC, and Steven Michael Long and wife Nicole of Smithfield, NC. two great grandchildren, Grayson Michael Long and Kylie Mae Long. She is also survived by her brother- in- Law, Dr. John S. Long and wife, Johnsie, and niece, Pam Elledge, and nephew, Clarence Eugene Love, Jr.

The family wishes to thank the many nieces and nephews, and friends from Mae's church, who gave her love and care in her declining years. Also, a special thanks goes to the caregivers at Forest Heights and the staff from Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at Faith Church, 1078 Gumtree Road, Winston-Salem, 27107, with Rev. Mike Gates officiating, on Thursday, July 9th , 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service . Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Kernersville, or to Faith Church. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
