Mae Evelyn Harris Hardy

Mrs. Mae Evelyn Harris Hardy, age 84, of Rural Hall, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Universal Health Care of King after a year of declining health. Mrs. Hardy was born in Winston-Salem on January 9, 1926, the daughter of Joe Henry Harris and Lucy Looper Harris, who preceded her in death. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1989, after 32 years of service. She worked as an operator and as an instructor at the downtown school. Mrs. Hardy was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church in Rural Hall. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter. Her joys in life were her family, good times at Long Beach, sewing/making beautiful crafts, and being independent to do it all. She fought a brave battle and will be missed by all. Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Gray Hardy. Surviving are her sister, Katherine Weaver of Stanleyville; her daughter, Glenda Whiteheart and husband, Louis of Germanton; and her son, Joe Hardy of King. She was loved by her four grandchildren, Lynn Virgil and husband, Kevin of Washington D.C., Debra Whiteheart of Durham, Louis Whiteheart II of Greensboro, and Matthew Whiteheart of Raleigh. A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Rural Hall Memorial Park with the Rev. R. Sidney Lanier officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kingswood United Methodist Church at 6840 University Parkway, Rural Hall, NC 27045 or to Kate B. Thank you Brittany, Gina, Teresa, Myria, Carrie and Rachael for all of your love and attention. Thank you to Universal Health Care of King, for taking care of her during her last days.
