Mae Saumier Danboise was born on October 9, 1936, to Mable Lavack Saumier and William Medrick Saumier in Massena, New York. She was educated at Harrowgate and Sacred Heart Schools. She graduated from Massena Central in the class of 1954. Her last year of high school she worked at Fishman Department Store and one-half day on a training program at Alcoa Plant. Upon graduation she was employed for several years by Alcoa. She also worked in a construction office for the company that built Twin Rivers School. She married Thomas Leo Danboise in Sacred Heart Church. They were married 51 years until his death in 2006. They were blessed with seven children: sons Kim (wife Saw) of Thailand, Richard (wife Lee) of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Ty William (wife Mary Ann) of Massena, NY, Thomas Bruce of Winston Salem, NC and Andy Remmie (wife Pam) of St. Augustine, Florida. They also had two daughters, Cynthia L (husband John Franke) of Winston Salem, NC and Suzanne M. (husband Preston Moore) of Bunnell Florida. She is predeceased by her three brothers, Carl, William H. and Ernest. She is survived by her seven children, eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. She started her career with Alcoa Aluminum company while still in high school. She was an Area Manager for Sarah Coventry Jewelry Company and traveled all through her territory from Syracuse to Albany, NY. She was employed by them for 25 years. She then worked as a Stenographer at St Lawrence County and Potsdam College. She retired from Potsdam in December 1997 and became a snowbird in Jensen Beach, Florida. She did this until 2022 when she sold her Lake Manor winter home in Jensen Beach. In 1999 she and Tom moved from Massena to Lewisville, North Carolina. She may be remembered for all the crafts she was involved in. She loved to sew and knit beautiful children’s sweaters for her great-grandchildren and for sale. Her craft name was Grammy D. She was a member of the Crickets Nest in Winston Salem and a guild member with the Kernersville Arts and Craft Guild. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association by visiting www.heart.org.
