Macie Ellen Grubb Prillaman

Macie Ellen Grubbs Prillaman, 88, went home to be with her Lord on May 6, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 11, 1925 in Winston-Salem, Macie was the oldest daughter of the late Ella Southern and Harvey Ray Grubbs. She was a wonderful daughter and sister and helped raise her younger siblings. Macie graduated from City Memorial Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1946 and had a long career as a Registered Nurse. She traveled to Oklahoma to nurse polio victims, and she spent many years working in Labor and Delivery and the Emergency Room at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro and Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro. She met the love of her life, James Prillaman, one night when he was brought to her emergency room after a motorcycle accident. His pelvis and leg crushed, he opened his eyes and asked if she was an angel. Love bloomed and they were married in March of 1951. They had three children who loved their parents dearly. Macie was a strong Christian and lifelong Southern Baptist. In 2009, Macie suffered a stroke. After rehab, she spent her remaining years at Carillon Assisted Living in Harrisburg near one of her daughters. Although her speech was impaired and her body weakened, she looked forward to spending time with family and friends. She loved participating in worship services at Carillon hosted by local churches. Macie was full of life and energy and had a very independent spirit. She had a caring and generous heart and everyone who knew her loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed by all. In addition to her parents, Macie was preceded in death by her husband, James Lester Prillaman, as well as three brothers - Smith Grubbs, Calvin Grubbs and Burt Grubbs, and one sister, Lona Mabe. She is survived by her sister, Lucille Henderson, of Pfafftown, NC, son Terry Prillaman of Cumming, GA, and daughters Trisha Warren of Apex, NC and Beth Keasler (and husband William) of Concord, NC. She was blessed with five grandchildren - Scott Prillaman, Jamie Wright (and husband Waylon), Levi Warren, and Crawford and Brennan Keasler, and two great grandchildren - Masyn and Cooper Wright. Her family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Carillon Assisted Living, CMC-Northeast Hospital, and Tucker Hospice House, who gave Macie compassionate care. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, May 8 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem, NC. A celebration of Macie's life will be held graveside at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 9 at the Stoneville Municipal Cemetery in Stoneville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tucker Hospice House, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.
