Mabel Smith Culler, 102, passed away on February 12, 2022. She was born on May 24, 1919, to William Edgar Smith and Mary Bradford Smith in Winston-Salem, NC. She was the ninth of ten children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Thomas J. Culler, Jr; granddaughter, Melissa H. Wilson; and son-in-law, Walter Ray Smith, Jr. She was an endearing matriarch to her beloved family. Surviving are her daughters, Martha C. Howle of Greensboro and Lynn C. Smith of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Dana Smith Anners (Scott) of Dothan, Alabama and Bradford Smith of Chesapeake, Virginia; and three great-grandchildren, Maddie, Andrew and Will Anners. She also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews. Mabel graduated from Lewisville High School and Draughon’s Business College. She retired from Young-Phillips Sales Company after 22 years of service. Mabel and Tom enjoyed traveling to many countries, golfing, and watching the Braves. They were avid gardeners, and her green thumb produced an abundance of beautiful flowers. She was the oldest member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. A service to celebrate Mabel’s life will be held at 1:00 pm at the church on Saturday, February 19, 2022, with Pastor Angel Christ officiating. The family will receive friends 30 min prior to the service at the church. The family requests that all attendees observe COVID-19 protocols. A private graveside service will be held at Forsyth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1210 Bolton St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mrs. Culler.
