Mabel Elizabeth Cook Houston

Mabel Elizabeth Cook Houston, 95, of Winston Salem passed away Saturday, October 30, 2010 at her home and went to be with her Lord. She was born September 2, 1915 in Davidson County to James Everett and Lessie Veih Everhart Cook. Mrs. Houston was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and dear friend. She was a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church since 1933 and a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School. Mrs. Houston was retired from the practice of Dr. Kenan Williams, MD, where she worked as a Medical Assistant. She was preceded in death by her husband Forrest Reith Houston, and their son, Forrest Rolland Houston, and one brother, James E. ""Jim"" Cook, Jr. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Machina Houston of the home, two grandchildren , Deborah Houston Parish and husband Brian Frounfelker of Maryland, Forrest Francis Houston and wife Julia of Falls Church, Virginia. One great grandson, Christopher Lambro Parish of Maryland; three brothers, Walter ""Pete"" Cook and wife Polly, Donald G. Cook, and William R. ""Bill"" Cook and wife Jewel all of Winston Salem. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. A graveside funeral service will be held at 12:30pm, Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, and will be followed by a Celebration of Life Service at St. John's Lutheran Church at 2:00pm with Rev. Frank Machina officiating. Following the service family and friends will gather in the fellowship hall and share their thoughts about Mabel and their friendships. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John‘s Lutheran Church Debt Fund, 2415 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston Salem, NC 27103, or to MOST Ministries, PO Box 130678, Ann Arbor, MI 48113, or to a Charity of choice.
