Lynn Kerley Oliver Lampley, 92, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at The Bradford at Brookside in Livingston, Texas. She moved to Texas in 2012 to live near her daughter.
Lynn was born June 22, 1930, in Surry County, NC to William Carl and Maude Kerley Oliver. During high school, in Elkin, NC, she was a member of the Glee Club, secretary of the 4-H Club, cheerleader, member of the Elk Staff and news editor of The Elk Antler, member of the Home Economics Club and member of the basketball team. After high school, she married Dwight Verene Lampley in 1951. Dwight was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. They lived in Germany for 4 years before returning to the United States and settling in Winston-Salem, NC.
Lynn worked for the Veterans Administration for 25 years. She was a seamstress and often made her children’s clothing. She was a member of Robinhood Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC, where she sang in the choir. She loved to travel and went on many trips in the United States and also served as a missionary in Kenya, Africa.
Lynn was a giving person and will be missed by so many.
In addition to her parents, Lynn was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Dwight Verene Lampley; three sisters, Peggy Eidson, Betty Melvin, and Don Martin; two brothers, Ned Oliver and Bill Oliver; one grandson, Christopher Holland; and two nephews, Jamie Shepherd and Tony Oliver; one niece, Reba Lampley Herring; and one great-nephew, Brandon McMichael.
She is survived by three daughters, Melanie Holland (Frankie), Lori Reed (James), Mechelle Combs (Ty); grandchildren, Kristy Rey (Matt) and Branson Comer (Ashley); step-granddaughter, Brittany Combs; great-grandchildren, Alex and Abby Rey, Cameron Wilson, Candace Holt, Hannah Erdman, Austin, Emma and Christopher Holland, Jr., Harmony and Mason Comer, Madisen and McKenzie Brown; great-great-grandchildren, Steven and Oliver Pressley; sisters-in-laws, Sandra Lampley, Jean Lampley and Polly Oliver; brothers-in-laws, Gerald Lampley, Dane Lampley and James Shepherd as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Pkwy., Winston-Salem, NC 27103, with Rev. Jason East, Associate Pastor of Robinhood Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There will not be a graveside service at the cemetery. Lynn will be laid to rest beside her late husband in the mausoleum at Parklawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials would be made to Kindred Hospice, 210 West Park Drive, Suite 107, Livingston, TX 77351.
