Mr. Luther Sylvester (Luke) Scott, 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a brief illness. He was born October 26, 1923 in Winston-Salem to Alexander and Ollie Kimel Scott. Mr. Scott was employed by Satterfield Construction Company and later by Reynolds Tobacco Company, where he retired with seventeen years of service, but his great love was gardening. He was a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he was active in the Senior Bible Class and the Methodist Men's Group. He was a veteran of World War II and was a Mason with the Winston Lodge. He was predeceased by his parents; five brothers, Alvia T. Scott, Orvel N. (Bud) Scott, Alexander S. (June) Scott, Fred E. Scott and Samuel Scott and three sisters, Ethel S. Angel, Christine (Jane) Douthit and Ruth S. Adams. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Baity Scott, a son, Ronald E. Scott (Linda) and a daughter Janet S. McAllister (Norman), all of Winston-Salem, five grandchildren, Tammy D. McAllister of Lewisville, Teresa McAllister Hughes (Chris) of Raleigh, Jeffrey S. McAllister (Georgia) of Lewisville, Jody Scott Jenkins (Curt) of Winston-Salem and Kelly Scott Hayes (Scott) of Winston-Salem; eight great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren, Savannah Jenkins, Chloe Jenkins, Jada Jenkins, Taylor Floyd, John Norman Hughes, Grayson Hughes, Christina McAllister, Nicholas McAllister, Dylan Floyd and Conner Hayes; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will conducted 11:00AM Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. David Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
