Luther Alton Cox

Mr. Luther Alton Cox, 83, of Walkertown passed away Friday, November 06, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Cox was born in Stokes County to George Elmer and Hattie Lynch Cox on February 16, 1926. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Mr. Cox retired from Pilot Freight Carriers with 35 years of sevice. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sue Johnson Cox; a grandson, Cody Cox, two brothers, Joe Bill Cox and Paul Cox, and sister Betty Lou Martin. Mr. Cox is survived by two daughters, Monteese Webb and husband Stan of Lexington and Denise Williams-Waddell and husband Michael of Walkertown; a son Alton Van Cox of Walkertown; two stepchildren, Cathy S. Crosby of Stanley and William Chris Shore of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Lois Nunn of Westfield and Nelma White of Madison; and a brother Gene Gwyn of Pilot Moutain. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, November 9, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Murr officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8 pm Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 2415 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
