Luther Bennett Clapp

Mr. Luther Bennett Clapp, 93, of Midway passed away Monday, November 6, 2023, at his home.

Mr. Clapp was born in Guilford County to the late Jessie Ingle Clapp and Herman Eli Clapp on August 31, 1930. He was a longtime member of Hebron United Church of Christ. Luther graduated from Elon College then studied advanced mathematics at UNC Chapel Hill where he was provided with a mathematics instructorship and assisted in the math library. Later, Mr. Clapp was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served in the Signal Corps. After his service, he was employed at AT&T Technologies (Western Electric) in engineering, programming, and Computer Systems Support; and Luther retired from the company when the plant closed.

Mr. Clapp was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Carolyn Hood Clapp. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Stephanie Shine of Midway. A funeral service will be held 12pm, Friday, November 10, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Silas Creek Chapel with Chaplin George Byrum officiating.
