Lucy Ila Merritt Moorefield

Mrs. Lucy Ila Merritt Moorefield, 96, went home to be with the Lord after a brief illness on November 4, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Stokes Co. on February 28, 1915 to the late Benjamin F. Merritt and Carrie Hall Merritt. Mrs. Moorefield was the last of her siblings along with being the last of her high school graduating class. She was a loving mother and farmers wife who taught her sons the importance of hard work. Mrs. Moorefield loved to work in her vegetable and flower gardens. She loved her family dearly and was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, John Elmer Moorefield, four sisters, Rilla Mabe, Daisy Flinchum, Grace Martin and Ethel Rogers and four brothers, Tom Merritt, Fred Merritt, Frank Merritt and Ted Merritt. Mrs. Moorefield is survived by two sons, Joe Moorefield and wife Sharon of Lewisville and Wayne Moorefield and wife Cheryl of Salisbury, four grandchildren, Wayne Moorefield Jr. (Ginny), Heather Florio (Nick), Kristen Moorefield and Daniel Moorefield, two step-grandchildren, Jason Hughes and Jeff Hughes, a great-grandson, John Moorefield and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Gary Byrum officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral in Rural Hall.
