Mrs. Lucy Kimbrough Holbrook, 82, heard Jesus call her name on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center and went home to be with him and all her loved ones who had gone before. She was born March 8, 1928 in Davie County. Mrs. Holbrook was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who looked for and found some good in everyone. She loved the outdoors, planting flowers, keeping her many bird feeders full and watching the birds and squirrels gather in her yard. She also loved cooking special meals for her family and taking care of everyone. For more than 20 years, as an Army wife in Germany and Stateside, she opened her home to provide home cooked meals to many young soldiers stationed far from home. She loved and cared for many pets over the years and will be missed by her latest companion, Buffy. Preceding her in death were her parents, Chalmus L. and Pearl McCann Kimbrough, two brothers, James Worth Billings and Jack Kimbrough and one sister, Mamie Bell. Surviving is her husband of 60 years, Jack V. Holbrook of the home; two sons, William Holbrook and wife Judy of Lewisville and Mark Holbrook and wife Christine of Walkertown; four grandchildren, Amy Hopkins and husband Brian, B.J., Daniel and Elise Holbrook. The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors of the 6th and 8th floor units at Forsyth Medical Center who so lovingly cared for their very special loved one. A private graveside service was held Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, with Rev. J. P. Sizemore and Rev. B. E. James officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 251 North Main Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
