Lucille Smith

Mrs. Lucille Ambres Baynes Smith, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2017. She was born to Claude F. Baynes and Gertrude Ambres Sowers Baynes. Lucille (Lucy) was 86 years old. Lucy was married to the love of her life, Wayne R. Smith, for 63 years before his death on May 28th, 2013. Also, preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Jack A. Baynes (Madelyn) and two sisters - Margaret B. Hampton (Howard) & Hazel M. Wall (Calvin). Lucy is survived by one brother, Harvey F. (Butch) Baynes (Cindy), one son, Keith I. Smith (Cindy) and one daughter, Beverly S. Shoaf (Eddie). Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Robert L. Smith (Cara), Kristen N. Shoaf (Geno), Ella G. Smith and Andrew C. Smith, plus two great-grandchildren, Abbie Nieto and Raleigh Smith.
Lucy graduated from James A. Gray High School. In her younger days, she loved to roller skate, cook, bake & sew. She made dresses for her daughter during Beverly's first year in school. For her grandchildren, she created pillows, stuffed animals and aprons. Lucy both loved and was loved by most everyone that met her. And no one laughed or giggled at the fun times in life, more than she.
Lucy was an active member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and helped with the youth group for many years. A favorite bible verse cherished by her was John 3:16. She was unable to attend church regularly in her later years, due to health issues. Her dog, Snuggles, gave her the most joy and companionship in her final years. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM atWesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Joel Key and Rev. Bret Cogan officiating. Inurnment will follow at Parklawn Memoiral Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway.
