Lt. Col. Charles Lee Bunn, Retired 87, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 at his home. Mr. Bunn was born in Guilford County on October 7, 1924 to Charles Alexander and Pauline Pegg Bunn. From the age of 7 he was mothered and loved by Minnie Vestal Bunn. Mr. Bunn and his father owned Chas. A. Bunn Co., a food brokerage business, retired in 1986 after 40 years in the business. He served his country proudly during WWII as a courier and a cryptographer. He was in the combat brigade known as Merrill's Marauders and retired from the U.S. Army after 27 years of service as a Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Bunn was a member of Masonic Lodge #167. Since 1938 he was a member of Central Terrace United Methodist Church serving on and chairing many committees. Mr. Bunn was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 47 years, Kathryn Reinhardt Bunn. He is survived by a very special lady friend, Mildred Swicegood, two daughters, Linda Gordon and husband David of Blountville, TN and Kathy Bunn of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Wendy Gordon and Michael Gordon, both of Blountville, TN, and Amber Denny of Winston-Salem; four great grandchildren, Riley and Reagan Gordon of Blountville, TN and Soren and Kale Webb of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Central Terrace United Methodist Church with Pastor David DiMarco officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
