Mrs. Louise Owens Turlington, 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, September 19, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born April 23, 1921 in Sampson County, NC to Thomas Lucien and Rophelia Jackson Owens. Mrs. Turlington was a graduate of Mingo High School in Sampson County and a graduate of Campbell College. She was family oriented, and enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She was married in Dunn, NC on September 13, 1947 to Alfred Bertrum Turlington who preceded her in death. She was a lifetime member of Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 55 and the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Post 777. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Sampson, Thomas, and Glenwood Owens; and a sister, Rhetha Pearl Poole. Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Shapiro and husband Bob of Southport, NC; one son, Barry Kent Turlington of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Ben Shapiro of St. Cloud, MN and David Shapiro and wife Katie of East Aurora, NY; one great grandchild, Ava Louise Shapiro; a cousin, Jane McMillan; caregivers, Diana Duerr and Cathy Queen; and special friends, Sue and Dan Sheets. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 23 at Union Ridge United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gary Elrod officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Kate B.
