Louise Miller Harrell

Louise Miller Harrell, 93, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012. She was born April 19, 1919 in Stokes County to the late Amos and Primmie Miller. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Nellie Mae Cromer, Ernest Miller, Fred Miller and Barbara Duggins Ashley. Surviving are daughters, Ellen Binkley, husband Charlie, Nancy Clark, husband Ron; granddaughter, Jamie Meares, husband Brian; great grand dog Rowdy of Raleigh (Rowdy is the only animal she has ever allowed to crawl into bed with her); step granddaughters, Karliss Binkley and Charla Binkley; one sister, Mary Matthews; and special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Harrell had many physical problems the last few years. This last one with cancer she endured with determination, grace, strength and courage. She fought very hard and her only concern was leaving her daughters. Her belief in her Savior never waivered. She was retired from Hanes Knitting in 1970 after 32 years of service, and also retired from Forsyth Medical Center in 1981. Mother had a wonderful sense of humor. Her philosophy was that she had rather ""wear out than rust out"". She was very independent and ""feisty"" until the end. She enjoyed entertaining and was responsible for the entertainment at Sprague Street Seniors meetings for many years. Mother was the Matriarch of our family. She planned many family parties for all holidays or just because she wanted a party! A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Moravian Church with the Rev. John Jackman and the Rev. Bill McElveen officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. A special thank you to her caregiver of 5 years, Thomisa Tucker; gratitude and appreciation to her Hospice Home team, Denise, Melissa, Sheron, Branson, and all the wonderful staff at Hospice. Memorials may be made to Trinity Moravian Church, 220 E. Sprague Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27127 or Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
