Greensboro - Mrs. Louise Esther Pitts Byrd, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep, early in the morning on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, with her daughters by her side. Louise was born January 29, 1928 in Guilford County to the late Jonah Columbus Pitts and Fairmae Gray Pitts. She went to Colfax School, attended Smith Grove Baptist Church, and lived in Guilford County her entire life except for the few years, she resided in Virginia while married and starting a family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in death by, a brother Harvey Pitts, an infant daughter Karen Louise Byrd, sons Mark Wesley Byrd, Victor Wayne Byrd and Roger Tracy Byrd, granddaughter Christina Freeman Humble, Brothers-in-Law Lawrence Jones and Don Dull.
Survived by two sisters, Helen Jones of Stokesdale, Dovie Mae Pitts Dull of Kernersville, a brother Gene Pitts (Oma Lou) of Colfax and sister-in-law Lala Pitts of Colfax, two daughters, Linda Stainback (Kent) of Browns Summit and Judy Fowler (Carl) also of Browns Summit, grandchildren, Dana Packer (John) of Zebulon, NC; Justin Stainback of Greensboro, Jennifer Smith of Kernersville, Jordan, and Joshua Byrd of Colfax, Haley Carter also of Colfax, Chad Humble of Liberty and former daughter-in-law, Ginger Carter of Colfax. Great Grandchildren include JT Packer III of Zebulon and Private Mason Packer currently of Washington, DC, Dylan Freeman of Liberty, Skyler Fowler of Greensboro, Austin Humble of Liberty and beloved great grandson Nathon Humble of Liberty, Jason, Jacob and Jackson Coffer of Kernersville, and great great granddaughter Emma Christina Freeman and great great grandson Ayden Scarborough-Hall of Liberty. Mama Byrd, as she was lovingly called, also leaves behind many cherished friends, neighbors and care givers who she considered family too many to list all but which includes Bill and Jeannette Dillon, Marilyn DiMeo, Patricia Rawley and Lana Scarborough.
A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday, May 20, 2016 at Smith Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Chuck Peters and Dr. John Marks. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family wishes to thank all those who have surrounded our family with love and support throughout this time of her illness and now her passing by sharing your memories of Mama, your visits, words of comfort, cards, telephone calls, flowers, food and refreshment during our time of loss. Also, we want to thank the staff at Hospice of Greensboro as well as the many doctors and nurses and all the medical staff who have attended her throughout her life up to and including her passing. We will always remember and be grateful for the patient, kind and compassionate care she received.
