""When the clutches of dementia took your mind and then your soul, Jesus took you up to Heaven and made your body whole."" Our beloved mother, Lorraine Bell Parker, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Lorraine was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1927 to the late Dewey J. and Antoinette Bell. She retired from the Winston-Salem Journal as a billing clerk in 1991. Lorraine was a ""connoisseur"" of homegrown tomatoes and chocolate. She was the number one fan of her all-time favorite singer Perry Como, and she never let us forget it! Lorraine is survived by her five children, known to many as the ""5K's"": Keith Parker of Tampa, Florida, Karen Parker of Winston-Salem, Kathy Parker of Winston-Salem, Kevin Parker of Winston-Salem, and Kerry Parker of East Bend; ""honorary daughter"" I'Ans Reeder of Winston-Salem; very special sister, Dorothy Corcoran of Mt. Olive, Illinois; granddaughter, Heather Parker of New Bedford, Massachusetts; grandson, Jeffrey Parker and fiancé©e, Sandie Vidinha of New Bedford, Massachusetts; great grandsons, Brandon Parker of New Bedford, Massachusetts and Gavin Parker of New Bedford, Massachusetts; and other loved family members and friends. Lorraine is also survived by best friend, Tootsie Tobin and daughter, Mary Ellen Tobin of Afton, Missouri. Lorraine had three great hairdressers over the years who became her very good friends: Fern Rhodes, Tina Gray, and Brenda Daulton. They kept her hair looking good! She is also survived by granddaughter Amy Parker of King, North Carolina. The family would like to express their thanks to Southfork Assisted Living Memory Care Unit for the care given to Lorraine since March of 2009. We would also like to extend our thanks to the wonderful, caring staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center, as well as the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Winston-Salem through this very difficult time in our lives. A celebration of life will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 2 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Reverend Doug Watts officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. A private burial will be held later. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Cancer Services, 3175 Maplewood Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215, in hopes a cure may be found for Alzheimer's so that other families will not have to struggle with the same heartbreak.
