Lorene McGee Hopkins

Kernersville - Mrs. Lorene McGee Hopkins, 67, loving wife and mother, died Monday, August 1, 2011 of complications from pancreatic cancer. She was born July 10, 1944 in Forsyth Co. to the late Lonnie Lee and Stella Beeson McGee. Mrs. Hopkins was a member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church. Lorene was a graduate of Robert B. Glenn High School. Upon graduating, she worked as a bookkeeper at Security Life and Trust, later renamed Integon, in Winston Salem for more than nine years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Dewey Lee Hopkins; and her brother, Laverne Lee McGee. Surviving are her son, Jason Hopkins of the home; a sister, Nancy Brim and husband, Steve of King; two nieces, Heather Anderson of King and Melissa Sell of Winston Salem. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dave Cash and Rev. Ellis Rouse officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 or Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, 794 Sedge Garden Rd., Kernersville, NC 27284.
