Mrs. Lorene Nancy Carpenter Byrd, 90, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She was born April 21, 1925 in Surry County to the late Emma Goins Carpenter and David Reed Carpenter. Mrs. Byrd was a Richard Petty fan. She had a great love for God and her country. Mrs. Byrd was a great mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, David W. Byrd, Sr.; one son, David W. Byrd, Jr.; four brothers; and one sister. Surviving are one son, Richard Byrd; daughter, Cherryl Penn and husband, Bob; three grandchildren: Anagela Creighton and husband, David, Becca Kaiser and husband, Andy, and Jessie Appier-Penn; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Callie Kaiser; and also, several nieces, nephews, and extended family. A funeral service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 27 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Camp officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
