Lorena Black West

Mrs. Lorena Black West, 94, of Advance passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born August 24, 1918 in Buncombe County to Arthur Jerome and Crowell Garrison Black. Mrs. West was a faithful member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church for 65 years where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She also attended Green Meadows Baptist Church. Mrs. West had a passion for quilting, baking bread and she loved her family greatly. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Clint West and a sister, Kathleen Black. Surviving are two daughters, Christine Ward (Maurice) of Mocksville and Ernestine Parker (Larry) of Advance; six grandchildren, Brent Ward (Rachel) of Clemmons, Anthony Ward (Stacy) of Advance, Tracy Slater (Gray) of Wilkesboro, Paul Parker (Leigh Anne) of Winston-Salem, Ryan Parker (Jamie) of Stallings and Kevin Parker (Jessica) of Clemmons; 13 great grandchildren, Clint Slater and fiancée Ashley, Colby and Ciera Slater, Caleb and Aaron Parker, Madison and Chandler Parker, Alexandra, Lillian and West Parker and Reese, Carter and Janaa Ward and a great great grandchild, Kamryn Slater. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Rev. Leon Wood and Rev. Marvin Garrison officiating. Burial will follow in Yadkin Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
