Mrs. Lora Jean Pack Butcher, 61, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. Lora Jean was born on November 9, 1962 to the late Sam Perrying Pack and Betty Lou Bowman Pack at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. Lora Jean battled lung cancer for almost 26 years. She was first diagnosed in 1998 when she had surgery to remove half of her right lung and had to undergo 36 treatments of radiation therapy. She went into remission for several years then she battled the cancer coming back many times and decided each time to do radiation therapy. She refused to do chemotherapy throughout all her years of dealing with her lung cancer because of the effects it had taken on her loved ones throughout the years. In October of 2023 after dealing with months of lower back and tailbone pain she found out her cancer had spread to her spine in two different places and there was a spot on her brain that it had spread to also. She also dealt with having a brain aneurysm on both sides of her head for many years. After being hospitalized for a few days and having multiple scans and tests done she was sent home. She started undergoing 10 radiation treatments and was only given 3 to 6 months to live by the doctors. She still fought and made it through all of her treatments and was able to ring the bell at the hospital for completing her radiation treatments. She had one last birthday on November 9, 2023 and all she wanted was to have a birthday party and to be able to see as many of her loved ones as possible. No matter what had happened throughout life she loved all of her family and friends very much. A week later she was rushed back to the hospital having breathing problems and found out she was having a flare up from her COPD which was another health issue she battled for many years. She was sent home that night and hospice was called the next day to go ahead and set things up at her home to make sure she was more comfortable. Unfortunately her health declined very quickly and on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 she was rushed back to the hospital to be more comfortable because of being in a lot of pain and having trouble with her breathing. The Lord called Lora Jean home at 6:17am on Saturday November 25, 2023, her battle was over here on Earth. She was a very strong woman who trusted in Jesus. She loved all of her family but most importantly she loved her two sons Carl Master Jr and Keith Masters with all her heart. They were her world and she did her best to always make sure they were taken care of and put them first always. All she ever wanted was for them to be happy and know how much she loved them. She also loved and missed her son Carl Jean Masters who was still born in 1982. The happiest days in her life were August 9, 1984 when Carl Masters Jr was born and on April 10, 1986 when Keith Masters was born. She loved her grandchildren Dwayne, Paisley, and C3 very much and was thankful she was able to see them before she went home to be with her Lord. She was a very courageous woman who lived her life here on Earth known and loved by many. She was very thankful and appreciative of all the help she received in her final days and she was extremely proud of her boys for how they stepped up and helped her the best they could. Nothing made her happier than knowing they were with her especially in her final days. Lora Jean was the caretaker for her brother James Michael Pack(Mike) for many years, she loved him so much. She also had a special place in her heart for her niece Cristy Pack, who she loved and trusted and always tried her best to be there for her no matter what, she was a very special part of her life. She was an amazing mother and aunt! She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Betty Pack, her son, Carl Jean Masters, beloved brother and his wife Jerry and Vickie Pack, brothers, Jimmy Pack (Pattie Pack) and Samuel Pack, her beloved sister Brenda Butcher (Hersil Junior Butcher), and her sister and her husband, Shirley and Alex Bowman.
