Mr. Lonnie Oakley, 62, of Clemmons died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 27, 1947 in Patrick County, VA, the son of the late Dexter G. and Blanche Robertson Oakley. Mr. Oakley grew up in Lawsonville where he attended Lawsonville School and in 1965 was in the first graduating class of North Stokes High School. He attended UNC Chapel Hill and retired from Winn Dixie following thirty years of service. For over thirty years he officiated high school basketball, football, volleyball, baseball and softball in the triad area. He was a valued member of the Triad Basketball Officials Association, The Northwest Basketball Officials Association and The North State Football Officials Association. In 2009 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in baseball. Survivors include his wife, Marlene F. Oakley of Clemmons; three brothers, Ted G. Oakley and wife, Wanda of Durham, Mark K. Oakley and wife, Brenda of Westfield and Don E. Oakley and wife, Donna of Sandy Ridge and six nieces and nephews, Kimberly Mabe and husband, Todd, Michael Oakley, Amanda Hort and husband, Bobby, Matthew Oakley, Heather Oakley and Eric Furches. A celebration of Lonnie's life will be held Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Christa Warise and Dr. Joel Stephens officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
