MELTON - RURAL HALL A soldier, Lonnie Junior Melton, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on February 3, 1922 in Carroll County, VA to the late Thelma Green Melton and Thomas Wade Melton. Mr. Melton proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was a devoted, long-time member of First Baptist Church of Rural Hall, where he taught Sunday School for many years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Melton was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Helen Snow Melton; and one brother, Ed Melton. Surviving are his two daughters: Leah Crouse (Carl) of King and Rita Epperson (Ben) of King; step-daughter, Kay Robertson of Durham; three grandchildren: Hollis Fred Snipes III (Amanda), Misty Braithwaite (Dale), and Amy Smith (Brad); four great-grandchildren: Alex & Breanna Snipes, Faith Braithwaite, and Haley Smith; several step-grandchildren; two sisters: Dossie Higgins and Maude Smith; brother, Lewis Melton (Nancy); and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. Melton will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Rural Hall with the Rev. Jim Pollard officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park with military honors provided by American Legion Post 290 of King. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 30 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Village Care in King and to Dr. Charles Stinson and the Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center for the exceptional care given to Mr. Melton.
