Mrs. Lois Lockett Ragsdale, 68, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born December 29, 1940 in Knoxville, TN to the late Thomas Wilson Lockett, Sr. and Emmaline Henry Lockett. Mrs. Ragsdale graduated from Maryville College in 1962 and taught in the Knox County School System until she married Jan D. Ragsdale in 1965. They moved to Winston-Salem and she briefly worked for the Forsyth County Social Services. She was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church, Jean Phillips Bible Study Group, Red Hat Society, Hillcrest Garden Club, and was a dedicated American Red Cross Blood Donor. Mrs. Ragsdale had a good sense of humor but she always dealt with certain issues in a direct manner. She was tenacious and never shied away from a difficult task. Mrs. Ragsdale was an excellent cook, loved to garden and especially cherished the Christmas season where she enjoyed her family and friends. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend, Christian, and volunteer. She is survived by her husband, Jan Douglas Ragsdale; daughter, Sara Ragsdale Eskridge and husband Joseph Dixon Eskridge, Jr. of Lynchburg, VA; son, Scott Edward Ragsdale of Knoxville, TN; two grandchildren, Emmaline Woodley Eskridge and Elizabeth Walker Eskridge; brother, Thomas Wilson Lockett, Jr. and wife Betty and their children of Knoxville, TN; her uncle, Charles Lockett, and many cousins. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Ardmore Baptist Church with Rev. Christa Warise, Dr. Bill Ireland and Rev. Ty Talton officiating. The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 pm Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ardmore Baptist Church 501 Miller St. Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to a charity of choice.
