Linda Lou (White) Miller passed away on Sept. 7, 2014, at home in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born on Sept. 14, 1943 in Lubbock, TX, to Robert White, Jr. and Marjorie (Chrysler) White. She was also loved by her step-mother, Lois (Wilson) White. Linda grew up in Columbus, OH and graduated from Hilliard (OH) High School in 1961. She attended The Ohio State University. On Aug. 3, 1963, she married Inglis J. Miller, Jr. in Hilliard, Ohio, and they were married for 51 years until her death. To them were born one son, Dr. Burke R. Miller, [Christine Fondaw] of Highland Heights, KY, and one daughter, Rebecca L. (Miller) Marion [Dean] of Thomasville, NC. Linda and Inglis had 8 granddaughters: Alexandra, Morgan and Lauren Marion; Abigail, Emily and Hannah Miller; Emma and Madison Janson. Mrs. Miller is survived by 3 sisters and one brother: Barbara Smallwood, Canal Winch., OH; Bruce ""Bill"" White [Jean], Latham, OH; Joyce White, Westerville, OH; and Melanie Potts [Michael], Gahanna, OH. She had a total of 20 nieces and nephews. Inglis and Linda located in Winston-Salem, NC in 1971, where she served the Bolton Elem. PTA, Forsyth County PTA Council, and as a Precinct Election Registrar. She was a needlecraft artist in counted cross-stitch and sales associate at the Stitchin' Post in Winston-Salem from 1982 - 1992. Linda began an association with Cancer Services, Inc. of Winston-Salem in 1989 as a Pink Broomstick client, support group member and volunteer. Later, she was employed by Cancer Services from 1993 until 2008, when she retired as a Patient Advocate. After retirement, she continued to serve Cancer Services as an advisor, volunteer and fundraiser. Linda survived metastatic breast cancer for 25 years. She received The Patient Advocate of the Year Award from Cancer Services in 2009. Cancer Services created the Linda White Miller Endowment Fund in 2014 as a way to continue the support of people living with cancer and to honor Linda's dedication to this work. She liked reading historical fiction, watching old movies, being with her family, and spending time at Kure Beach, NC. A memorial service will be celebrated at the Lewisville United Methodist Church, Lewisville, NC on Saturday, September 20 at 2 PM with The Reverend Thomas Albert officiating. Linda's family thanks the physicians, nurses, staff and volunteers of Wake Forest Baptist Health, Cancer Services, Inc., Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Advanced Home Care, Hayworth-Miller Funeral Homes and Crematory, and Gary and Ginger Hauser, Dr. Carolyn Ferree, Tara O'Brien and Helen Jones, as well as many other treasured friends and fellow patients for their support, affection, and encouragement.
