“The Witch of Rural Hall” has flown her last broom ride. Linda Gail Carithers Hart, 73, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, November 11, 2018. She was born July 21, 1945 in Forsyth County to the late Harry Lee Carithers and Silbie Holt Carithers. In addition to her parents Linda is preceded in death by her grandmother, Inez “Granny” Rominger Holt. She is survived by her brother, Steve Carithers (Janet); niece, Allison Carithers; daughter, Michelle Allison; favorite son-in-law, Randy Allison; Michelle’s Father, Joe Hart; granddaughter, Reagan Swaim (Vann); great-granddaughter, Addison Jade Swaim; precious familiar feline, Belle; and a special cousin, Brenda Spease and her son Jackie. For 50 plus years, Linda was employed as an optician which brought her great enjoyment and personal enrichment. She first was employed by Dr. Chambliss in Rural Hall until moving to Sam’s Club Optical in Stanleyville, where she retired. Know by her family as “Nature Girl”, Linda had a passion for all things outdoors, including gardening and animals of all kinds, and was an avid antique and collections collector. She especially loved going to her favorite family get-away spot on the Pungo River in Belhaven, NC, where the family hunted, fished, and observed wildlife of all kind, particularly bears, and just enjoyed creating memories with her family. Linda often said, “We are so fortunate because our family not only loves each other, but we actually all like each other as well.” Anyone that met her, would never have a bad word to say, she was loved by all. Her brother Steve says, “No one could have a better big sister than Linda.” Her biggest claim to fame was being known as “The Witch of Rural Hall”. She delighted in decorating for Halloween with over 10 life size monsters created by her and family, much to the enjoyment to over 1500 trick-or-treaters each year. A memorial service will be conducted 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 14 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Preacher Barry Clement officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family wishes to express special thanks to Linda’s friends and care givers, Sue and Kathy who took such great care of her, as well as the members of Sam’s Club Pharmacy, Dr. Javiad, Ashely Timmons, Matt Coker, Carlene Wood, and especially her brother, Steve.
