Lillian J. Nommsen

Lillian Nommsen passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012 at her residence in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born March 15, 1916 to William and Keike Petersen in Orland, CA. Mrs. Nommsen moved to the Hessel area in 1922 where her parents operated a chicken ranch. In 1938 she moved to Petaluma. She attended Dunham Elementary, Petaluma High School and graduated from Analy High School in 1933. She worked several years in the poultry industry and then went to work for the city of Petaluma. She worked there for 21 years, the last 10 years as City Clerk. She was a past member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Altar Guild. She was also a past member of Petaluma Valley Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Nommsen enjoyed gardening, handwork and socializing with close friends and relatives. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nommsen was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Henry Nommsen; as well as her two sisters, Clara Mogel and Minnie Combs. Surviving to cherish her memory is her son, Kenneth Nommsen and his wife Ranae of Pilot Mountain, NC; grandson, Erik Nommsen and his wife Dana of Pfafftown; great grandchildren, Taylor Berenyi, Madison Nommsen, and Abigaile Nommsen; as well as many realtives and friends. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Parent-Sorensen Funeral Home with Pastor John Doolittle officiating. Burial will follow at Cyprus Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran St., Petaluma, CA, 94952; or Guide Dogs for the Blind, PO Box 3950, San Rafael, CA 94912.
