Lillian "Lynn" Childress Choplin-Swaim

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Lillian “Lynn” Childress Choplin-Swaim, age 75. Lillian, born on January 28, 1950, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Lynn was born to the late Early and Cleo Childress. She was raised in the “Southside” of Winston Salem, NC. She graduated from Parkland High and furthered her education as a hairstylist. She was a hairstylist for many years until she began working at several well-known businesses such as Southside Cafeteria, Ernie’s, Carolina Western, and she retired from K & W Cafeteria.

Lynn had many friends. She didn’t know a stranger and whenever she was out with family or friends, she would always stop and talk to someone she knew! “To know Lynn, was to love her”. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, cooking, and she adored her fur baby, Ginger.

In addition to her parents, Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Swaim Sr.; and six siblings.

She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Sumner of Virginia; her daughters, Angela “Angie” McGee of the home, Christina “Chrissy” Kennedy (Nicholas) of Winston Salem, NC, Candy Martin (James) of Lexington, NC, and Tammy Jollay (Tom) of Lexington, NC; two grandsons, Jeffrey Jefferson (Alex) and Payton Martin; three granddaughters, Skye Smith, Harker Jollay, and Rachel Jollay; and two great granddaughters.

A homegoing service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 12:00PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends the hour prior at the funeral home. A reception will follow the service in the Robert F. Miller Center.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the Trellis East Team Nurses as well as Carewell Therapy, with a special thank you to Courtney Williams for her unwavering care and love for our mother.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a plant, or do an unexpected, unsolicited act of kindness for someone in need. For those who wish to provide meals, the family politely asks that all meals be sent the day of the service to the Robert F. Miller Center in lieu of the home.
