Lillian Blackburn Atkins

COLFAX - Mrs. Lillian Blackburn Atkins, 88 of Colfax, NC passed away Thursday, October 23, 2014. She was the wife of Wesley Hampton Atkins and they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in November.

Lillian was born in Kernersville, NC to the late Jule and Bertie Mahaffey Blackburn. She graduated from Kernersville High School and attended additional classes in her senior year. She was a member of the Glee Club as well as the Homemaker's Club. She had a love of music and played the piano until her health declined. She was a member of Colfax Baptist Church for many years and due to declining health she was unable to attend the last several years. She enjoyed watching sermons on Sunday morning television and listening to Gospel music with her husband Hamp.

In addition to her husband she is survived by three daughters: Carole Smith (Bernard), Sue Willis (Rob), Cindy Gossett (Randall); eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and a brother Rober Blackburn.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Wayne Branch officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 PM at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shady Grove Wesleyan Church Building Fund at PO Box 98, Colfax, NC 27235.
