Lewis Jones

Mr. Lewis Jones, 90, passed away February 9, 2017. He was born in Harnett County, NC on March 25, 1926 to the late Otha and Nora Jones. He grew up in Garner, NC. After graduating from Garner High School in May, he entered the U.S. Navy in August 1944. He served in the Pacific during World War II on the U.S.S. McDermut, DD677 and ended his service in June 1946. After returning home, he played weekend semi pro baseball. Lewis began his career with Wachovia Bank in December 1946. In his own words, he ""experienced a satisfying career in a happy working atmosphere"" with legacy Wachovia in its Raleigh, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem offices. He retired from Wachovia on June 30, 1989. His ""biggest dividend"" was meeting the love of his life, Doris Williamson, at Wachovia in 1949. They married on March 31, 1951 at Hayes Barton Methodist Church in Raleigh. Doris and Lewis always had a ""happy, satisfying marriage"" that lasted 65 years until Doris passed away on April 6, 2016. Throughout their lives, their children and grandchildren brought them much joy. They were also happy and active in their church, Mt. Tabor UMC, which they joined in 1962. Lewis Jones was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his three brothers. He is survived by his son, Al Jones and wife, Susan; daughter, Sandy Jones Albert; and grandchildren, Andrew Jones and wife, Jessica; Philip Jones and wife, Leigh-Anna; Jenny Albert Hagen and husband, Hart; and Katie Albert; along with many beloved nieces and nephews. After a private committal service, a Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Key officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Lewis' memory to Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, 3543 Robinhood Rd, Winston-Salem, NC. 27106.
