Lewis Ray Davenport, Sr.

KERNERSVILLE - Lewis Ray Davenport, Sr., 72, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born June 15, 1939 in Guilford Co. to the late Thomas Lon and Ethel Caroline Poteete Davenport. Mr. Davenport was a United States Army veteran and retired in 1993 from Sealed Air after 36 years of service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lisa Davenport; sisters, Arlena Pegg, Pauline Hedgecock, and Ruth Davenport; and two brothers, J.V. and Glenn Davenport. Surviving are his wife, Maynell H. Davenport of the home; daughter, Cammie Cain and husband, Scott of Trinity; son, Ray Davenport and wife, April of Kernersville; grandchildren, Matt and Ryan Cain, Lily, Lewis, and Eli Davenport; sisters, Lois Parnell his twin, Mildred Jackson and Vera Jackson; brothers, Guy , Ralph, Richard, and John Davenport; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Jason Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Friday, December 16, 2011 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Brenner Children's Hospital and Health Services, Development Office, Medical Center Blvd, Winston Salem, NC 27157.
