Mrs. Leta Wilson Poindexter, 88, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010 at Davie Place Assisted Living Facility in Mocksville after an extended illness. Mrs. Poindexter was born in Sac County, Iowa to Louis F. Wilson and Tillie Curry on November 3, 1921. After graduating High School she moved to Rockford, Illinois to work in a munitions factory to aid the war effort. There she met her future husband, G.A. Poindexter who was temporarily stationed there after a tour in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge from the Army they moved to North Carolina and lived the rest of her life in Winston-Salem as a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Becks Baptist Church where she was an active member of the W.M.U. for many years and also served in the Library. She also enjoyed gardening and civic activities. She was preceded in death by her husband, G.A. Poindexter of 62 years; two brothers and three sisters; and a grandson, Bryan D. Poindexter. Surviving are a daughter, Susan P. McGee and husband Bill of Wilmington; two sons, Gene A. Poindexter and wife Glenna of Advance, Edwin L. Poindexter and wife Betsy of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Chris, Josh, Paul and Brad Poindexter and Katharine McGee. She is also survived by six great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday, October 25, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. No services are scheduled.
