Leta Gray Ellis

Mrs. Leta Gray Allen Ellis, 78, of Mocksville passed away Monday, June 1, 2015, at her home. Mrs. Ellis was born in Davie County on February 17, 1937, to Charlie Wilson and Esther Sofley Allen. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. She retired from Hanes Hosiery with 42 years of service and later become a full-time ""Mamaw ELEL"" working in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church Preschool and keeping her great grand boys at her home. She was adventurous in her last ten years; she went skydiving, white water rafting, and parasailing. She also enjoyed riding her motorcycle and four wheelers. Leta enjoyed working with flowers, which complimented her husband, Shorty's landscaping. She will be remembered as a lady who truly loved her family. She loved her daughters to the end of the earth and accepted their husbands with open arms. Mawmaw ELEL loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren with all of her heart. Her time spent with them was very meaningful to her, especially in the last few years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Francis ""Shorty"" Reid Ellis; and two brothers, Cornell and C.W. Allen. Leta is survived by two daughters, Patricia Howard and husband Donald and Deborah Sprinkle and husband Trey; three grandchildren, Kendall Howard and wife Marci, Adam Howard and wife Robin, and Josh Sprinkle and fiancée, Christina McCabe; five great grandchildren, Sarah and Emma James, and Michael Ross, Reid Donald, and Bailey Caroline Howard; a brother, Lester Allen and wife Vivian; a sister-in-law, Barbara Allen; and her dear friend, Jeanette Cook. A funeral service will be conducted 6:00 pm Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Rebecca Allis officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm Wednesday evening at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
