Mr. Lester Shore Taylor, our dear husband, dad and grandfather, passed into the presence of his Lord on Thursday, July 28, 2011. Lester was born May 23, 1921 in Yadkin County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus King Taylor and Nannie Jester Taylor; his brothers, Marshall, Leak and Alvis Taylor; his sisters, Ruby Taylor, Viola Bowman, Nova North, Eva Conway and Martha Staton. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Key Taylor; a daughter, Wanda T. Weavil (James); two sons, Larry M. Taylor (Phyllis) and Ronald W. Taylor (Deresa); grandchildren, Lorie Weavil, Leslie Taylor, Marjie Taylor, Crystal Herring; a great grandchild, Little Reid Herring and a sister, Cora Lee duPont. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy/ Marines as a medical corpsman in the Pacific Theater and into Japan. Lester was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, having served as Chairman of the Deacons, Building Committee Member, Sunday School Teacher, Softball Coach, delivering Meals on Wheels and serving his church and Lord wherever needed. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Engineering Department after 35 years of service. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2011 at Edgewood Baptist Church with Rev. Kent Hogan and Rev. Joe McWhethy officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown with military rites by the V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
