Lester W. Salmon

Lester W. Salmon, 86, died Friday morning, January 16, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center. Lester was born Dec. 21, 1922, in Winston-Salem to John and Agnes Salmons. Lester attended Griffith High School and served in the U.S. Army in Alaska during WWII. He worked at West Electric Company and retired from Piedmont Aviation where he was an avionics mechanic. In younger years Lester was a licensed private pilot, flying with his family to fish on the Outer Banks. He was a member of Trinity Christian Church and in retirement enjoyed mowing the fields and tending the orchard at his farm near King. This past year he lived in close proximity to, and received loving care from, his niece, Patsy Stewart, and her family, and his sister. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Audette Richey Salmon, and by his parents. Lester is survived by his daughter, Nancy Salmon, and her husband, Rep. David Webster of South Freeport, Maine; his sister, Kathleen Richey, of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. A memorial service will be conducted on Sunday, January 18, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem with the Rev. Keith Marsden officiating.
