Leslie Elmer Payne

Mr. Leslie Elmer Payne, 90 of Homestead Hills, died Thursday evening, October 30, 2008 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Payne was born September 22, 1918 in Forsyth County, a son of the late Rober Earl Payne and the late Cora Love Frazier Payne. Mr. Payne was well known for his craftsmanship in woodworking, and he was a retired machine designer with RJR with 38 years of service. He was a scholar of God's Holy Word, and was a longtime, faithful member of Salem Baptist Church. The lights of his life were his 5 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Brown Payne in 1996 and a sister, Doris Payne. He is survived by his daughters, Dana Warrick and husband David of Wake Forest, Jann Hine of Winston-Salem, and Karen Coalson and husband Gregg of Winston-Salem, sister, Willie Mae Ellis, brothers, Jimmy Payne and Benny Payne, 5 grandchildren, Kelly Hine, Benjamin Warrick, Amy Coalson, Kasey Hine and Laura Coalson. A funeral service will be conducted 10:00 AM Monday, November 3, 2008 at Salem Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Wilburn and Dr. Gary Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in Morris Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive 6-8 PM Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care 101 Hospice Lane Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to thank the staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their care and support during the past week.
