Mrs. Leslie Kathleen Luper ""Penny"" Messer, 64, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Forsyth County on October 27, 1945 to the late Elwood Hanes Luper and Beatrice Williams Luper. Penny had retired from R.R. Donelly Co. in Winston-Salem. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed greatly by all who knew her. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tina Kathleen Armstrong and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Cole. Penny is survived by her daughter, Jackie Luper of the home, a grandson, David Wayne Armstrong of the home, two sisters, Johnnie Cole of Winston-Salem and Sharlene Angel of Kernersville, a brother, Roy Luper and wife Carolyn of Winston-Salem, her faithful companion, Toby and two special friends, Daryl Flowers and Venus Flowers both of Prue, OK. A memorial service will be conducted 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening, August 7, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Dr. Cecil Cave officiating. The family will receive friends directly following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to; Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
