Leon Lindsay Huls Jr. (Bill) entered into his heavenly home on February 15, 2023, after an extended illness. He was born on February 3, 1937 in Winston-Salem, NC to Leon Lindsay Huls Sr. and Lucy Thrift Huls. Bill was a graduate of Mineral Springs High School class of 1955. Up until his health no longer allowed, he enjoyed monthly breakfast meetings of the Bulldog Club. He so enjoyed reminiscing with his fellow classmates. Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955-1959, being stationed in Iwakuni, Japan. Upon discharge, he began his career at Piedmont Aviation where he retired as Chief Inspector after working tirelessly for 50 years. Bill loved sports, especially Duke football and basketball. He enjoyed many years of traveling to and from football games with his childhood best friend, Charles Boyd. He continued these trips until his health no longer allowed it. Bill enjoyed coaching football which was evidenced by his many years in the Pop Warner program both with the Tiny Vikings and Tiny Packers. He was a mentor to many young men, some who became like sons to him. Bill was a faithful member of Ogburn Memorial United Methodist Church, which is now Faith United Methodist. He held many positions in the church, sang in the choir, taught various Sunday School classes, and led many Bible studies. He loved to study God’s word. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Lucy Huls, and sister, Lynn Gray “Skipper” Huls. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Grubbs Huls, his daughter, Kelly and husband Chip, grandson, Andrew and wife Samantha, two great granddaughters, Stella Steele Parker, and Waverly Wood Parker, brother Terry Huls, sister, Penny Styers and husband Buddy, and a host of very special nieces and nephews. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held Monday, February 20, 2023, at Faith United Methodist Church in Tobaccoville, NC. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM and the service will be held at 11:00 AM. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the physicians and nurses at Forsyth Memorial Hospital and Trellis of Winston-Salem for their unwavering care. They would also like to thank the many doctors who cared for Bill during his many years of illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith UMC, The American Heart Association, National Kidney Foundation, or the American Lung Association.
