Mr. Leon William “Bill” Weatherman, 86, left this earth for his heavenly home on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home. Bill was born May 1, 1936 to the late Ransom Clifford Weatherman and Louise Luckenbach Weatherman in Winston-Salem, NC. Bill graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in June 1955. He married his high school sweetheart on August 21, 1955 and they were married for 67 years. Bill was employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for 31 years. He worked in the Engineering Department as a Senior Designer. Bill grew up in Home Moravian Church and later became a faithful member of Reynolda Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem, NC where he was a member for 44 years. Bill served as a deacon there. Bill served in the Army National Guard for 6 years and received an Honorable Discharge. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Gail Osborn Weatherman, daughter Donna Lynn Haskins and son Brian William Weatherman (Dawn P. Weatherman), his four grandchildren, Paul C. Haskins, Jason L. Haskins, Jennifer M. Haskins and Jacklyn Noel Weatherman as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his brother Ransom C. Weatherman, Jr. and his sisters, Jane Frances, Anne Weatherman Holland, and Jean Weatherman Wilhelm. Bill also had a special bond with his maternal grandfather, Rev. Leon Luckenbach who preceded him in death in 1948. One of the joys of Bill’s life was trains. He made an amazing layout upstairs in his home for his trains. Men from train clubs could not believe the fine detail in his layout which took years to accomplish but never finished. His imagination just went on and on. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 1:30pm at Reynolda Presbyterian Church on Reynolda Road with the burial to follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will welcome friends from 12:30-1:30 pm at the church Wednesday immediately before the service. The family will hold a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Hayworth-Miller on Silas Creek Parkway. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Bill’s home nurse, Linda Mabe and those who took special care of him at Home Hospice, Trellis Supportive Care as well as his physicians and nurses. We would also like to thank our numerus friends who cared for us and prayed for us during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tn, 38105.
