Leon Ross Daniels Sr.

Leon Ross Daniels Sr., 88, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Daniels was born May 31, 1923, in Mecklenburg County to Eugene Carneige and Iola Ross Daniels. He has resided in Winston-Salem since 1934. Mr. Daniels graduated from Hanes High School in 1942 and has kept many close friendships with his classmates over the years. Mr. Daniels served 33 months in the US Army during WWII. He was assigned to the 312th Signal Service Battalion during his tour of duty in Europe. Mr. Daniels was a member of the Forest Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Daniels was secretary-treasurer of E.C. Daniels Furniture Company Inc. which operated in Winston-Salem from 1934 to 1997. He was married December 24, 1943 to the love of his life, Dorothy Tallon. The two have enjoyed 68 years of faithful marriage to one another. Mr. Daniels is survived by his son, Leon Jr. and wife Pamela of Hampstead, NC; three grandchildren, Shannon Daniels McDonald of Raleigh, Brent Daniels and wife Jennifer of King, and Stephanie Sebo McKeown and husband Chris of Wilmington; three great grandchildren, Madeline Avery McDonald, Sidney Victoria Daniels, and Aaron James Daniels. Also surviving are two sisters, Lois Daniels Horton of Kernersville and Verna Cleo Daniels of Butner. Family was very important to Mr. Daniels and he enjoyed the close relationships of his many nieces and nephews. Mr. Daniels and his wife traveled frequently to the NC coast and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Mr. Daniels was a very good cook and fixing ""goodies"" to give away was his ministry. He had a servant's heart and gave graciously to anyone God sent his way. His love for God, Country, Family, and Friends will always remain close in the hearts and minds of all those that knew him. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Trooper Brent Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park with military rites by the Clemmons Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
