GARDNER - WINSTON-SALEM
Mr. Leo Francis Gardner, 85, arrived at his new address to start a new life, in a new city on Monday, December 29th, 2014 after battling chronic COPD for years. He was born July 6th, 1929 in Forsyth County to the late John W. Gardner and Betty Jane McCraw Gardner. Mr. Gardner was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved to work in his garden and tend to his orchard and work on projects around the house. He was a member of South Stokes Church of Christ for 43 years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 59 years, Mrs. Mary Ruth Pendry Gardner and by 14 brothers and sisters. Surviving are his son, Terry S. Gardner and wife, Patricia A. of Kernersville; daughter, Melissa K. Vaquera of Winston-Salem: two grandchildren, Carmen D. Vaquera and Carlos A. Samayoa; and one great-grandchild, Ellie D. Samayoa; two sisters, Irene Gardner Sands and Violet Gardner Stafford; and one brother, Eugene Gardner and wife, Nancy.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Minister Jerry Pence and Minister Dale Babinsky officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015 at the funeral home.
