Lee Roy Hollifield

Mr. Lee Roy Hollifield, 87, of Lexington, NC passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Hollifield was born in Mars Hill, NC on May 27, 1924 to Ensley and Sue West Hollifield. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the Philippine Theater during World War II. He retired from Leaseway Leasing with over 30 years of service, participating as a member of the Teamsters 391. Mr. Hollifield was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church, and a very active member when his health permitted. He will always be remembered as a family man who gave his all at work and in church. Mr. Hollified was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha Nell Mathis Hollifield; a son-in-law, Stanley Roberts and ten siblings. He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Schwebel and husband Donald of Petersburg, VA and Catherine Roberts of Winston-Salem; three sons, Melvin Hollifield and wife Nancy of Winston-Salem, Mike Hollifield and wife Betty of Kernersville, and Dr. William Hollified of Gainesville, FL; a brother, Roscoe Hollifield of Ellington, MO; 11 grandchildren, Donnie Smith, Tina Hollifield, Elizabeth Lockwood, Nikki Skinner, Amy Hollifield, Candice Schwebel, Natalie Hollifield, Marisa Roberts, Samantha Taylor, Monica Hollifield, and Vincent Roberts; and seven great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Harris, Rev. T. W. Bailey, and Dr. Harold Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 pm Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Parkway Chapel.
