Lee Roy Bates

Mr. Lee R. Bates, 81, passed away at Autumn Care of Mocksville on Friday, January 9, 2009. He was born March 1, 1927 in Forsyth County to the late John Henry and Lillie Holden Bates. Mr. Bates retired from AT&T with 38 years of service and was a volunteer fireman for the City View Fire Department. He was the youngest of eleven children. Preceding him in death was his wife, Jennie G. Bates, two brothers, and eight sisters. Surviving is his daughter, Kathie Bates Whitaker and husband Terry of Mocksville; three grandchildren, Michael Lashmit, Todd Lashmit, and Candy Whitaker; three great-grandchildren Alex, Mason, and Luke Lashmit. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 12, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Mr. Bill Teague officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Care for the special care and support they provided to Mr. Bates.
