Mr. Lawrence Lewis, 86 passed away Monday, July 28, 2008 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born July 6, 1922 in Davie County to the late Augustus ""Gus"" and Julia Russell Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a truck driver for most of his life until retirement. He proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Army, 3rd Army, 31st Tank Battalion under General Patton's command. He served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Germany where he received a Bronze Star for his bravery.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Ervin Lewis. Mr. Lewis is survived by three sons, Larry Lewis and wife Corlois of Rural Hall, Michael Lewis and wife Patricia of Mocksville, Jerry Lee Lewis and wife Vickie of Salisbury. Two daughters, Vickie Lewis Walters and husband John of Rockwell and Sherry Lewis Thompson and husband Rusty of Clemmons. A graveside service for Mr. Lewis will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury with his son, Larry Lewis officiating. Full military honors will be provided by North Carolina Military Funeral Honors.
