Lawrence G. Gordon, Sr.

Mr. Lawrence G. Gordon, Sr., 96, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, April 07, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Gordon was born in Guilford County on June 16, 1915 to Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. and Carrie Scott Gordon. He graduated from Monticello Public School in 1934 and later attended Elon University. Mr. Gordon began working in the transportation industry in 1935 for Barnwell Brothers Trucking. He retired from McLean Trucking Company in 1980 as Vice President of Traffic. Mr. Gordon married Nell Rudd on August 23, 1941 and they had a son, L.G. ""Nick"" Gordon, Jr., in December 1943. Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; six brothers, Clyde, Staley, Charles, Eugene, Ottis, and Howard Gordon; and three sisters, Fannie Rudd, Sudie McLean, and Doris Sutherlin. He is survived by his son, L.G. ""Nick"" Gordon, Jr. and wife Karen of Germanton; a step granddaughter, Brittany Lee Hovey of Vienna, VA; a step grandson, Michael Scott Poe and wife Lisa; two step great grandsons, Adam and James, all of Rural Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Bill Baird officiating. Burial will precede the service, 10:00 am Tuesday at Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery in Brown Summit, NC. Memorials may be made to Germanton United Methodist Church, 3615 NC 8 and 65 Hwy, Germanton, NC 27019, or to Victory Junction, 4500 Adam's Way, Randleman, NC 27317.
