Lawrence C Cook, Jr.

Mr. Lawrence C Cook, Jr., 87, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, December 10, 2012. He was born July 5, 1925 to Lawrence C and Alice Laney Cook. Mr. Cook was a combat veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII on the USS LST 926 in the Pacific Theater. He graduated with honors from East Tennessee State University in Chemistry and was with RJR Tobacco and RJR Tobacco International from 1957-1987. He was Director of Research and Development at RJR. Mr. Cook was a lifelong blood donor, giving over 80 gallons of blood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Stelling Cook; his parents; a son, James Randolph Cook; brothers, Elmer, Robert, W.R. and Denver Cook; sisters, Beatrice Bradley, Nell Cook and Edna Earle Cook; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Carol Cook. Surviving are three sons, Rodney Alan Cook (Sue), Charles Richard Cook, and William Rudolph Cook (Kathy); a brother, Jerry Lewis Cook; two sisters, Betty Jean Cook and Della Joan Cook; and his grandchildren, David Cook, Betsy Lanzen (Aaron), Wendi Loraine (Greg), Dena Moore (Shane), Travis Cook (Caroline), Heather McLeod (Stephen), Luke Cook, Cristina Kettles, and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 14 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. J. Matthew Burton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 13 at the Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
