Lawrence "Butch" Church

Mr. Lawrence ""Butch"" David Church, 75, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born October 27, 1939 in Danville, VA to Hobart Glenn and Nitie Belle Austin Church. Mr. Church attended Bethlehem Church of Midway. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from RJR with 37 years of loyal service. Butch loved to watch NASCAR and pulling for Earnhart. He enjoyed working in the yard, but most important, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Church and Bill Coe; two sisters, Shirley Moorefield and Dixie Pfaff. Surviving are his loving wife of 41 years, Sue Church; one son, Ron Frye and wife Ginger of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Lisa Church Jarvis and husband Chad of Welcome; four grandchildren, Ashley Hartman and husband Ben, Abby Frye, Walker Jarvis and Faith Jarvis; one brother, Robert Church and wife Martha of Lewisville; two sisters, Peggy Ellis and husband Gene of Clemmons, and Joyce Scott of Walkertown. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Bethlehem Church of Midway with the Rev. Rick Swaim officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 12:45-1:45 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Church of Midway, 8115 Old Lexington Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107 or Exchange/SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now), 500 Northwest Blvd., Winston-Salem, NC 27105
