LaVonda Hemric Boston 81, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at Heritage Woods Senior Living in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. LaVonda was born in Yadkin County in 1943. She was the youngest of six daughters to Walter Hemric and Jettie Chappell Hemric. In addition to her five sisters, LaVonda had two half-brothers, Paul and Eugene Hemric.
LaVonda graduated from Yadkin Valley High School as class valedictorian. After High School, LaVonda married and moved to New York City. LaVonda loved New York and quickly became a city girl. LaVonda gave birth to her only child, Darryl Boston, in 1965. LaVonda took pride in her career and success working for the New York City Public School System. LaVonda enjoyed having her sisters visit her in New York and later hosted her nieces and great nieces.
After retirement she moved to Winston-Salem to enjoy her huge family of sisters, and many nieces and nephews. LaVonda loved to cook and host dinner parties for her family and her friends who visited from New York and Florida. She loved to listen to music, read, and travel. She found a haven in Aruba which became her favorite place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of the island. She served on the Board of Directors for her Homeowners Association and enjoyed volunteering at Forsyth Medical Center and the Forsyth County Democratic Party.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Jettie Hemric; brothers, Paul and Raymond Hemric; and sisters, Doris Fine, Betty Solomon, Mattie Lee Taylor, Ruth Oregar and Shirley Winters. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is with her loved ones. Especially her son, Darryl who sadly died while in his first year of college. She is survived by her many nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren whom she loved and enjoyed very much. She had a special bond with her nephew, Michael Solomon, his wife, Teressa, and her niece’s, Donna Clinard and Sharon Pritchett, who cared for her until her passing.
A visitation will be held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
